Mamma’s Happy Heart | Free Spirit | Lina Monaco

Good Morning Friends!

It’s Lina, today sharing this layout of my two babes using the Free Spirit collection.

This picture… this picture melts my heart! The two of them love each other so and I managed to snap a quick picture of the two mid cuddle. Both entertained by the iPad but loving each other none the less! It only lasted about 3.7 seconds, but I was quick enough to take this picture! Ha!

Let’s jump right in… I started the layout by cutting two triangles and adhering them to my background sheet. Creating a diagonal quadrants. Then, I sewed around the perimeter and down the sides of the triangles with my little sewing machine. I used plain white thread, I like this look best. The papers I used for the background are Dreamy and Wildflowers.

Next, you guessed it… matting of my photo. LOL! I guess I have a routine and order to the way I do things. Haha!

I chose a variety of papers in the collection for my matting. I think they were all scraps to be honest. I don’t think I cut into a new, whole sheet. Pretty impressive, right?  I used the corally-orange border in the Accessory Stickers sheet as part of my layering behind my photo.

Working on my title, I fussy cut the word “happy” from one of the cut apart sheets. There is also a lower case one in the Die Cut Ephemera pack but I liked this one better. Well, truth is that I cut out the one from the die cut sheet first and then noticed the other one. It worked out well though because I wouldn’t have been able to arrange the letters the way I wanted with the pre-cut one since it was all one piece. For the rest of my title, I used the Alphabet Stickers and then sewed through them with my sewing machine.

To embellish, I used bit and pieces from the Die Cut Ephemera pack as well as some cuts from the cut apart sheet. I also used some Woodies, a Flair Button that I placed within a nest of mint thread and finished off with a sprinkling of Enamel Shapes. I have to admit that this layout is less embellished than my other layouts. It kinda felt nice to use less 😛

To add to my love of tiny words and phrases, I created my own by cutting out some of the type patterned paper from the collection. The wording was perfect!

Hope you liked my layout! Have a wonderful day!

For I Know… | Wild at Heart | Lina Monaco

By | 2017-06-28T05:07:37+00:00 July 6th, 2017|Design Team, Wild at Heart|

Good Morning CVS Fam!
Lina, here!
Today, I’m sharing with you a layout I created using the ever gorgeous Wild at Heart collection. Gah, I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of this collection. I just keep finding inspiring ways to use it.
This week on the blog, we’re focusing on journaling. Those who follow my YouTube channel know I rarely journal on my layouts. If I have something important to say or document, I write it on the back. I’m always afraid that if I do it on the front, I won’t end up liking my writing and then won’t love the overall look of my layout. Silly right? LOL!

But, I feel like I’ve found a creative solution… Hidden journaling, best of both worlds! Here’s my layout:

Firstly, I chose this background paper, Artisan, knowing I wanted to cut out a huge title with my Silhouette Cameo and secondly, back it with another sheet from the collection. In this case, I choose that bold floral, Memento. Perfect combo! The cut file is something I found online. You can easily search it if you need to.

The matting of my photo was up next… This is one of the most fun (and important) for me when creating my layouts. I chose papers that would compliment my photo and layout but would not compete with it. I also used my layers as a way to bring in the additional colours of the collection such as the navy, to the top of my layout.

Also, I chose to scrapbook this photo in black and white instead of the colour version. I have two reasons for this; First, I didn’t want the colours of the photo to get lost or blend with the colours of the papers. And, secondly, the black and white picture was a bit more dramatic 😉

My matting is also where I was going to “hide” my journaling. I used foam sheet pieces to create a slot where my tags would be housed. The tags are where I wrote my journaling and are aesthetically part of my layers. I added some baker’s twine to my tags as well.

Next up… embellishing! I feel like I used some of everything here for my clusters: Die Cut Ephemera, Chipboard Frames, the tiny words from the Accessory Stickers, a piece from the Rubber Charms set, a Flair button that I surrounded with pink thread and finally, a healthy sprinkling of the Enamel Dots. I used the blue sparkle ones 🙂

I created a heavily embellished cluster on either side of my photo and then a smaller and simpler one at the top right hand corner of my photo. Seriously, I just love the tiny phrases and words that are included on the Accessory Stickers sheet. I could add those everywhere. And, theres always the right message to add.

I appreciate you stopping by today and letting me share this layout with you! Have a beautiful day!

Cool for the Summer | You Rock | Lina Monaco

By | 2017-06-17T12:01:37+00:00 June 20th, 2017|Design Team, You ROCK|

Hello Friends, Lina here!
Today, I’m sharing my latest layout with you, a 12×12 I created with the You Rock collection. This week on the blog we’re focusing on Seasons. And, having just come back from the best vacation yet, I chose Summer. This photo is of my oldest daughter and my hubby, playing with sand on the beach.
I’m having too much fun pushing myself out of my own comfort zone using pictures of my daughters with such a masculine collection. But you can seriously use this collection for just about any photo, it’s so versatile!

Here’s my layout…

I had an idea in my heading before beginning this layout that I wanted to use strips of different patterned papers. All types f patterns and colours. The cut apart sheet was perfect for that concept… it already has strips of perfectly coordinating patterns. I happily cut into it and chose my favourite ones. The background paper I used is that gorgeous, multicoloured triangle. It heart it so much! I glued it all together and also contemplated even machine stitching across the butted seams but decided against it when I realized I wouldn’t be able to fold up some of the edges to create dimension. I’m glad I didn’t. 😛

Next, I matted my photo with you guessed it… more patterned paper and colour. Blame the tropical island I just left for all the inspiration! LOL!
I popped my photo with matting on some foam sheet for added dimension. I don’t think I’ll ever not use it. I just love the look of the lift.

I dove right into embellishing and created three separate clusters including my title.

To embellish, I used pieces from the Chipboard Stickers, the Die Cut Ephemera, the Accessory Stickers, and Washi Stickers. So, pretty much all the things!

I also used some metallic silver thread to create a “nest” for my Flair Button. I used the cute Awesome one.
To create my title, I used two different sets of alphabets from my stash. A larger, woodgrain one and a smaller orange one.

To complete my layout, I also used a couple of the Rubber Charms in and around my clusters. They were the perfect finishing touch! It took everything in me not to splatter some paint on the layout but I refrained because I wanted to keep the layout look “cleaner”, if that makes any sense.
And, that’s it!
I hope you enjoyed my process and layout. I appreciate you all stopping by!

Awesome Shaker Cards | You Rock | Lina Monaco

By | 2017-06-05T11:26:54+00:00 June 6th, 2017|Cards, Tags and Mini Albums, Design Team, Inspiration, You ROCK|

Hey Friends! Welcome to the blog today!
I’m super excited to share something a little different with you. Something a little different then the layouts I make. From time to time, I like to create cards and that’s what I’ve got to share with you today. I’ve been on a shaker card making kick lately and this collection, You Rock, is perfect for those masculine birthday cards.

I’ve made two so far, and I want so badly to make more. They’re fun! I need to carve out more time to create cards. After all, they’re always in demand as it’s always someone’s birthday! LOL! So, here’s what I created…

Both cards measure 4.25 x 5.5 inches, one is landscape and one is portrait. First thing I did was create frames with dies for both. I used one that had a stitched detail. Then I cut some transparencies to fit the frame. To build up my frame, I used three sheets of foam each. I knew I needed some extra space in the shakers to accommodate the thicker pieces of embellishments I wanted to use to decorate the inside of the cards. I allowed everything to dry overnight so there weren’t any sticky bits the sequins would stick to later.

I choose background papers that wouldn’t complete with all the fun shaker bits and embellishments I wanted to add, so I chose papers that were muted in design. Nothing overpowering in terms of colours or prints.
To embellish, and add the sentiment I wanted to convey, I used the wood veneer pieces that I heat embossed a couple weeks ago. I used embossing powders in both black and pearl orange. Next, I selected pieces from the Die Cut Ephemera package.
I also used pieces from the Rubber Charms. The fit perfectly in the window since I had given myself enough space with the foam.
My cards *needed* that something else, So I liberally used the Enamel Shapes to add that punch of colour and design.

Now, for the fun part… the sequins! I wanted it to be a super festive card so I went to town with the sequins. I picked colours that screamed PARTY!!! Using colours that are already in the collection, I chose some Aquas, oranges, yellows, metallics and blues. I also added some small beads for another type of dimension and texture. I like the look of all these fun elements together!

Here you can see all the dimension both of the foam creating the actual shaker and the contents on the inside. I could stare at all the pretties all day!

I kept the inside super simple… I matted the inside with some patterned paper from the collection topped with some white card stock to write my sentiments. And that’s it! The outside already has so much going on, I didn’t want to add (or take away from) to the fun element of the card.
And, that’s it! These cards took a little longer to create because of all the extra steps involved, but they are soooo worth it! I can’t wait to see the faces of the recipients when they open their cards!

Thanks for stopping by today! Have an amazingly, creative day! xoLina ❤️

Awesome | You Rock | Lina Monaco

Hello Loves!
Welcome to the blog today, I’m happy you’re here!
So, I love the layout I’m sharing with you all today… Just LOVE! I used the all new You Rock collection and I am smitten! Smitten with the entire collection. I thought that just maybe, maybe I’d have a difficult time using it since I have two girls I mainly scrapbook about but boy was I wrong! All the collection’s components are just perfect and so easy to use! I can’t wait to document photos of my girls with it.

But, this week, we’re sharing and focusing on our boys. And, with that, I am sharing a layout of my dear husband, my boy 😛
Here, he’s playing in the snow like a big kid… which he really is. LOL!

I started my layout by choosing my papers. For my background paper, I chose that incredible dark teal ombre paper. When I saw it, I knew I needed to use that bad boy first! And so I did.  I knew going into it, I wanted to use that cut file from Paper Issues. I mean c’mon… it’s perfect! I cut it several times with my Silhouette Cameo. Once for my background, that sheet is called Experimantal. Second for the yellow outline, called Inline. And third to fill in the letters, Plus One.

I created a small cluster on the top right of the page to bring the eye upward into that beautiful light aqua ombre. I used some of the new Washi Stickers, some enamel shapes, and some word stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet.

Next, I chose the papers to matte my photo with. I used that same yellow sheet to bring over some of the same shade to the right side of the page and then just a few others from the collection. I brought in some black as well for a couple reasons… first, I love black and secondly it acts like an anchor and gives weight to my photo. Kinda makes it pop off the page. I popped the entire photo and mattes on a piece of foam sheet for dimension.

To embellish, I used something from almost all the collection components. I used pieces from the Die Cut Ephemera, the Chipboard Stickers, and the Accessory Stickers. Those Accessory Stickers kill me… I just love them soooo much. It’s the tiny words and phrases that get me every time!

When creating the cluster around the bottom left of my photo, I included some metallic silver thread. I made it into a small, circular nest and placed a Flair Button in the center to anchor it in place. Just adore the thread and always forget to use it. I used to use it a lot more often before. I’m making a mental note… LOL!
Lastly, I placed some Enamel Shapes around my layout, focusing mainly on adding them to my clusters. I used the black ones to tie in the black matting of my photo.

I just adored using this collection and getting the chance to actually cut into it. It’s a fun and cheerful collection. I’m off for now… going to head into my craft room and create some more. Have a wonderfully scrappy day!   xoLina

Sweet You | Wild at Heart | Lina Monaco

By | 2017-05-06T22:48:22+00:00 May 6th, 2017|Design Team, Wild at Heart|

Hello Gorgeous People!
This morning, I’d like to share with you a layout I recently created using the Wild at Heart collection. I am having a wonderful time using it and creating wonderful layouts with it. I’m still totally in love with it!
The photo I decided to scrapbook is one of my dear hubby and our littlest meatball, who just turned one. I thought that the colour of their outfits fit well with the navy of the collection. They matched perfectly!

I began with a white sheet of card stock that I cut down a bit. I took about 2.5 inches off of one side and mounted it onto the gorgeous navy floral you see strips of at the top and bottom of the layout.
Then I went in with some mixed media and applied the ever popular, “packaging technique”. I used three different colours of ink to achieve the golden yellow colour. It picks up perfectly the golden tones in the floral sheet. I then took another ink spray in gold and splattered some paint around my page.

Next, I mounted my photo with patterned papers from the collection. I just used smaller pieces and staggered them behind my picture in kind of a hap-hazard manner, showing just bits of each of the patterns used. The entire piece, photo with matting is all popped up on a piece of foam sheet, creating dimension.

For my title, I eagerly reached for the Wood Veneer Words. I just love the texture the wood gives to any layout. I choose the words Sweet and You, creating Sweet You 😊  C’mon, look at those faces… the title was fitting. I may be a bit biased.  LOL!

Next, to start my embellishing, I started with the Die Cut Ephemera and sorted through them, choosing the one’s I thought would compliment my layout best. I also fussy cut some larger florals from one of the patterned papers. I purposely left a navy border around the images to create contrast against my white card stock paper. Working on my visual triangle, I added clusters of embellishments to both sides of the photo plus the top left corner. I also added pieces from the Rubber Charms and a Flair Button that reads, “You make my heart sing”. Perfect!
Still working on embellishing, I added some of the Chipboard Stickers to round it all off. The clusters are full (just as I like them 😛) but not over done.

Lastly, the most wonderful finishing touch to any layout… Sparkle Enamel Dots in the gorgeous amber colour. I sprinkled and tucked them in and around my layout and peeking under the embellishment clusters. I used the entire bit of them! I couldn’t get enough!

Thank you for stopping by today and sharing in my layout. I also have a process video recorded for this layout which you can find below. 😊

Hope you’ll watch! Have a wonderfully creative day! xoLina

XO | Wild at Heart | Lina Monaco

By | 2017-04-20T00:58:33+00:00 April 20th, 2017|Colour Me Happy, Cut Files, Design Team, Inspiration, Wild at Heart|

Hello and welcome to the blog this morning!
It’s Lina and I’m excited to be sharing this layout I created using the ever gorgeous Wild at Heart collection. I thoroughly enjoy using it and think I will use every last shred of this collection. It’s just perfect!

So, this week on the blog is to focus on a previous member layout, past or present and “scraplift” their creation. I choose the lovely Raquel’s layout. I found it on Pinterest a little while back and just admired it for a bit for inspiration. When this challenge was presented, I jumped at the chance to use it. Yay! You’ll find Raquel’s layout below.

Now, here is the one I created using Raquel’s as inspiration.

To start, I cut out some of the florals, leaves and of course the glorious XO from the Colour Me Happy cut files. You can find them HERE in the CVS shop. Then, I backed it with patterned papers just as Raquel did. I went with aqua and light coral shades. I also left some of the leaves unbacked. I like the contrast it adds.
My photo runs vertically, unlike Raquel’s that is landscape. I matted it with various patterned papers from the collection as well as a white doily. I feel like the doily softens the hard edges of the photo and matting. And it’s all popped up on a piece of foam sheet for dimension.

The corners are one of my favourite things on this layout. I cut two triangles and matted with a piece of vellum from my stash and machine stitched down the longer of sides. It’s a super cool effect and I am really digging it.

Next, I searched for embellishments and the butterflies from the Ephemera pack were spot on perfect. I placed glue only in the center of the pieces and folded the wings upwards as to mimic a butterfly in flight.
I also used the small typed words from the Sticker Accent Sheet. I wish I had an endless supply of these as I feel they finish off any layout. I think it may easily be one of my favourite embellishment in the collection.

Using the very pretty and shimmery Sparkle Enamel Dots, I lovingly placed them around my page, tucking some under embellishments allowing them to “peek” through. The XO is also popped up on foam sheet and it really stands up off the page. I am in love with the colours of this collection, they’re perfect to document any type of photo you may want to.

I had a great time “scraplfting” Raquel and I hope I did her amazing layout justice with my take on it. Her composition of the photos and embellishing in the center of the page is a favourite of mine.
I appreciate you stopping by today! My heart is full! Have a wonderful day!
