Hi creative friends,

Gwen here today to share with you a new layout.  With the release of the new You Rock collection, we are focusing this week on the boys in our life, so how could I not scrap a page of my darling husband. ((Yes, another silly snap, this time on a quick coffee date.))

The idea for this page began with a grid design.  I have always loved these as they are such a great way to start a page, especially when you are not 100% sure of what direction to go in.  I began by cutting 8 squares all 3.5-inch x 3.5-inches.  I chose the circular design of the ‘Stripped’ paper for three of the squares, the white side of the ‘Experimental’ paper for two more and the blue side of this paper for 2 more squares.

I have mounted these onto the ‘Night Sky’ paper into 3 rows.  I even placed a square in the very centre as at this stage I wasn’t sure where I wanted my photo mat.  I love the lines in the background, they remind me of notebook paper from school.  Next, I knew I wanted to fill in the 2 left over spaces of my grid. For the lower one I chose a blue frame from the chipboard stickers and for the top right-hand side, I chose a large circular piece from the ephemera pack.

Every collection, Zoe wow’s us with her die cut ephemera packs and this one is no exception!  I’ve used the large piece that says ‘You are my WORLD” as part of my title and so many other bits and pieces in this layout.  I love how it’s circular shape highlights the circles in the paper design.  This gave me the idea to add a few more!! I added a larger circle to the left of my photo and 2 smaller ones to the bottom right-hand corner of my photo.  I also added here a star cut from the ‘Random’ paper.

Next, I went about adding another layer of squares, overlapping the background grid.  I have used my photo mat as the largest of these and then added 2 more chipboard frames to round out the design.  I then went about filling in the spaces using ephemera, more chipboard pieces, Accessory Stickers, Wood veneer and a flair.

The ‘hello’ piece from the wood veneer set became the beginning of my title.  The natural colour of the wood coordinated really well with the yellow hints I was picking up in my photo so no need to add anything, just glue and go.  Next, I had to add some of the Rubber Charms!!  I completely forgot I was supposed to be hoarding these and added 3 in total, don’t you just love love love them!

Last but not least, I added a flair from the flair pack and the layout was done.

With so many fun elements in this collection,  there really is something for everyone and I have so enjoyed creating with it!  If you haven’t seen the collection yet, be sure to check it out, it’s in stores now!

Until next time

Hello again Creative friends,

Gwen here today to share another layout, this time using up my stash of Totally Rad.  With the new release You Rock in stores soon, I thought NOW would be a great time to use up my stash ready for the shiny new things!  You will all know I’m not a big “boy” scrapper, but I do love this line as it has a softer feel than some other grungy style boy lines.  It’s not crazy out of my style, but I promise not a flower in sight!

Now would probably be a good time to ‘explain’ this photo!! Hubby and I had just taken a ride on the Wheel of Brisbane, which you can see me pointing to in the middle of the photo.  We were on a rare date – we don’t get much time just the two of us (without Miss 10) so we were feeling a little silly and snapped this selfie!  It really does capture the crazy side of my man, which of course I love.

The design of the page started with the Line Up paper, which I consider a great neutral and totally useable on pages of any type.  I love the bold lines and knew I wanted these to run lengthways across the background of my layout.  Next, I went about cutting a chevron cut file.  I found this one on the Silhouette website #55485.  This is a great file for using up paper scraps, you could mix and match any papers that you have left in this collection as they all work really well together.  Once cut, I arranged them in lines on my background alternating the Stellar paper and the Say What paper.   Once I was happy with the placement, I stitched them down with some gold thread, because who doesn’t love gold thread right?? 🙂

Next, I knew I wanted to use the title “these are Good Times” from the Mix Tape paper so I fussy cut it out and mounted it on a neutral part of that same paper.  I also fussy cut out the words “Love This” and “Crazy” as I thought they fit my photo really well.  It was then time to mount the photo, for this I’ve used plain white card stock from my stash.  Then I went about adding the title and photo onto my page. I did this first, as they were my two biggest elements and I wanted to be sure I had their placement right before adding my smaller embellishments.

Once the photos were locked in, it was time to add the other text elements including those I had cut in the step above.  I felt like my page needed a little more and when I saw the sticker “You have to be odd to be number one” from the Accessory Stickers sheet I just knew I had to add it!  I also found this cute AWESOME banner in the Wood Veneer,  as well as the star and man icons.  I’ve also added in some Woodies – I love these things and am so glad to see them in quite a few of the Cocoa Vanilla collections.  I went with 3 cluster groups to round out the design and added some Enamel Shapes to finish.

So.. go on, pull out your leftovers of Totally Rad and use them up, those shiny new things are not far away now!

Hi creative friends,

Gwen here today for something a little different.  This week on the blog we are Scrap lifting!!  Like many of you, I’m sure, I’m a huge fan of Raquel Bowman and could not go past the opportunity to scrap lift one of her Cocoa Vanilla layouts.  After a lot of indecision (there are WAY too many beautiful designs to choose from), I went with this one.  I love the clean lines and central design and thought it would suit my photos really well.

and here is my version of her design:

It was so fun to have a design to work with and not have to make too many decisions about what should go where, almost like a sketch!  It meant the page came together really quickly as well!

I am still totally crushing on the Wild At Heart collection, and I knew it would be a great fit for my pictures.  I began by adding the top and bottom strips of Artisan paper pieces to the Double Dot paper.  I’ve also added some layers of the Patchwork paper both the A and B sides, for a pop of pink and florals.  I did also use some basic white card stock from my stash.  I have mat my photos with the B side of the Double Dot paper, I so love this shade of mint green and added lots of stitched details.

I also had the idea to use the negative chipboard piece from the “Love You” sentiment from the chipboard accent stickers as my title. I felt it was a really good fit with the Scrap lifted design as I needed something quite large that would fit across the width of my photo and keep with the linear style of the page.  It was also a great way to get more out of the chipboard.  Do you use the negative pieces on your layouts?

Next, I began work on the flower clusters to the left and right of the photo.  There are so many beautiful elements in the Wild At Heart ephemera pack it was so fun to layer them all up together.  I finished off the clusters with some flowers from the Free Spirit and Hello Lovely collections.  I have added quite a few more pieces than Raquel did, simply because I feel my style is more layered and I do love to add heaps of embellishments.  Even when scrap lifting, I think it’s important to be true to what you like and make the borrowed design your own.

Have you seen the Rubber Charms?  There are so many embellishments in this collection and these are some of my favourites.  I selected out the 2 bright pink charms and made sure they found a spot on my page, I love them so much.

A final close up of the divine typed sentiments from the Accessories Sticker Sheet – one of the most popular items in the collection because they are so useful.  They are currently out of stock on the Cocoa Vanilla Studios website, however,  I have seen these at some of our stockists, so if you come across them, snap them up!  Of course, I have also finished the layout with some Wild at Heart enamel dots, and woodies from the Free Spirit collection.

I hope this inspires you to give scrap lifting a try, it’s a fun and easy way to create a layout. Don’t forget to sprinkle a little of your own style in too for a wonderful result.

Thanks for popping by

Hello creative friends,

Gwen here today to share with you my latest layout using the Wild At Heart collection.  Crazy happy with how this layout came together and it has been so nice to document the Adele concert in Brisbane my sister and I recently attended.

The design and whole idea for this layout came from these sweet little notes that were sprinkled over us towards the end of the show, just like confetti.  As soon as I saw they had hand written song lyrics on them I knew I had to use them on a layout and my sister and I went madly about trying to get one of each of the different types!

Then came the tricky part, trying to include them in a way that was my style, not taking too much away from my photo but showing them off as well.  I came up with the idea to use them in my background.  To do this I chose 3 of my favourite papers (Artisan, Luscious and Grow Wild) from the Wild At Heart collection and cut rectangle pieces similar to the size of the notes, these are 5.5cm x 3 cm if you are looking to re-create at home.  I then layered them onto a white piece of card stock in a patchwork kind of design, mixing up the papers for interest as I went.  Once I was happy with how these looked, I added in the song lyric pieces and stitched in place.

Next, I went about adding the chipboard frames, oh how I love these, and layered them in with the photo mat. I then decided I wanted a little more interest in the background and had some of the XOXO shapes cut from the Colour Me Happy cut files I really wanted to use. I like to cut elements in advance so I have them on hand when creating and these were from that pre-cut stash.  I also took this time to add in the title, using the Hello Sunshine Alphabet stickers which were a perfect colour match to the blue shades in this collection.  Next, I noticed the flair badge that said “Hello” and then went about finding all of the “hello” sentiments I could from the collection and was quite surprised at how many I found!!  These really helped my layout come together.  (“Hello” is one of my favourite Adele songs and the song she sang to open the show)

Then, I went through the Die Cut Ephemera pack and found this sweet blue bow, blue flowers and fab star elements.  I also added the wood veneer hearts at this point and decided where that flair should go.  Lastly, I finished out the layout with some Hello Sunshine enamel shapes – how cute are these hearts? and these divine typed sentiments from the Accessory Sticker sheet.

I hope you enjoyed hearing about my process for this layout, and if you too went to the concert, I’d love to see how you documented the event.

Hi friends,

Did you know that Cocoa Vanilla Studio is one of the sponsors this month over at Kraft + Challenges? If you are looking for some inspiration and want a chance to win yourself some Cocoa Vanilla goodies, be sure to check the challenge out and give it a go!

This month, you need to use Denim on your creation, somehow, anyhow (I simply used the colour Denim)… making sure the Kraft is still the hero. Here is the inspiration board:

At first I was a bit worried that the board was not quite me, however, it was a great starting point for a layout and I find challenges like these really help me become a better scrapper by getting me out of my comfort zone a little. I took inspiration in particular from the lace and the beautiful shades of denim blue. I started with the Kraft card stock base and a cut file from white card stock from my stash. Then I pulled out a stack of pieces from the Wild At Heart collection all in varying shades of blue. I starting with the stunning bold title from the chipboard sticker sheet.

It turned out a little ‘boho’ and I really love that about it! To create the layout, I took the “Grandma’s Tablecloth background” cut file from the silhouette store and cut it to fill an entire 12 x 12 white card stock sheet. I then overlaid it onto of my Kraft card stock. At this point I saw the background design had taken away from the Kraft base too much so I went about cutting out large sections of it to reveal more Kraft colour. I kept aside some of these cut out pieces to use as layers in my photo mat. Once I was happy with the white that was left, I backed with the small pieces of the “Mariposa” paper. I tried to vary the pieces from the paper up a lot, rather than back the file in one large piece; as I wanted a mix of the shades of blue to match the inspiration board. I then went about machine stitching the pieces for added detail.

Next, I set about adding my title. With a title this large, it’s a good idea to place it early in the design – I find if I don’t do this, I can run out of space later. I then added in the lovely chipboard photo frames. I love love love these! I wanted to use the quote about love as well, and was the perfect fit for the frame as you can see here. This was also the point where I finalised my photo mat; I’ve used more of the “Mariposa” paper as well as some of the “Artisan” paper for contrast.

You can also see I’ve added some more machine stitching around my photo, some die cut ephemera pieces such as this bow and some pretty blue flowers and the enamel dot sparkles. At this point I thought it needed a little pop of another colour and noticed the inspiration board had the smallest pops of pink. For these, I went to the Endless Summer collection and found the Woodies and Blooms were a perfect fit to finish off the layout.

I hope my layout and a little look into my process has inspired you to give the challenge a try, I’d love to see what you create!

Hello creative friends,

Gwen back with you today to share my very first layout using the divine ‘Wild at Heart’ collection.  I so adore the pastel elements in this collection and I’ve teamed them with a black and white photo of my daughter.

This layout started with this sweet little background cut file called “Heart Background” from the Silhouette store which I cut from plain white card stock from my stash.  I just love how it looked over the top of the ‘Luscious’ CV-WH001 paper; I think it really shows off that beautiful ombre effect.  I have also added some stitching detail for interest and to keep it in place.

I also really wanted to use lots of the pieces from the Ephemera pack, these are a must in any collection and this one is no exception.   There are so many pieces all varying in size and they always include all of the icons in the range and so many beautiful things to finish out your layout.

I started with the larger elements such as the blue and white doily and the pink frame.  The other larger elements I have used are from the ‘Fussy Cuts’ page CV-WH006 including the large butterfly and the text “you’re some kind of wonderful” which I’ve used as a bit of a sub-title for my page.

I’ve also added 2 smaller chipboard frames.  Once these larger elements were placed on the page I went back through the ephemera pack looking for smaller pieces.  I found the cute little ‘love’ ticket,  a cute tag, film strip and the die cut butterfly as well as the ‘TODAY” and “Sweet” sentiments.  I also couldn’t resist using two of the butterflies as well.

To round out the page I have added some chipboard pieces, a flair and those super sparkly enamel dots.  I couldn’t have my tag without a pretty bow so I’ve added one with twine from my stash and then thought I’d add two more pieces in circular shapes on either side of the photo to balance out the design.

The collection is in store now, be sure to check it all out!

By | 2017-02-12T18:05:56+00:00 February 18th, 2017|Design Team, Inspiration, Love Always|

A big hello to you all, Gwen here today with another layout to share using the divine ‘Love Always‘ collection.  I have so enjoyed seeing the Design Teams layouts in our ‘Love’ theme and today I have one more to share with you; this one features my husband and I on a recent (and rare) weekend away.

For this layout, I started with the off-cut/outline piece from the ‘XO’ Colour Me Happy Cut file which I had previously cut from a white sheet of card stock. I wanted to use the outline as a feature in my design.  I started by backing the cut file with the ‘Class Act‘ paper; those dots are divine and I just loved how simple yet striking they were.  Next, I went about the task of hand stitching around the outline of each of the shapes.  I chose a soft pink thread to complement the pink chipboard elements I had planned to use later on.  This does take some time, but I feel the results are worth it!

The next step was to create my photo mat, adding paper layers from the ‘Note to Self‘ and ‘Twin Set‘ papers and then adding more hand stitching around the edge of my photo for extra detail.

To round out the design, I have used a few chipboard elements including the frames these are all from the ‘Chipboard Accent Sticker‘ sheet.  The first frame I chose was a perfect fit for the “This Makes me so Happy” sentiment, which I have used as a bit of a sub title for the page.  This has been cut from the ‘Lovely Things‘ paper.  The others I chose for their varying size and colours to help round out the design.  I love working with square photos, so adding the frames (which generally are also square) really pulls the design together.

Of course, I wanted to add some other smaller elements for interest; the Bits and Pieces pack and the Die Cut ephemera elements were perfect – you get so many elements in these and in lots of sizes too which is fab.  Be sure to take a look at the Vellum accents as well, these are super divine.

What better way to finish the page than with a puffy sticker and the sparkly Enamel Dots, I cannot get enough of these and they are in the most perfect colours with a pretty sparkle to them.

I hope you enjoyed seeing the details of my latest layout and it has inspired you to get creative with some of the beautiful Cocoa Vanilla Studios products, there is so much to choose from and it is all divine!!
